All those people who are looking forward to spend the upcoming long weekend at the famous hill stations, have all the reasons to cheer. Hilly states of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are going to witness heavy snowfall during the next 24 hours. While Jammu and Kashmir will witness moderate snowfall.
According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, this spell of snowfall will continue till January 23, making it apt for tourists to enjoy scenic and breathtaking views and also the winter sports such as ice skating, skiing, paragliding etc.
This will be the second spell of heavy snowfall across the famous tourist destinations such as Manali, Shimla, Mussoorie and Dharamsala. However, Srinagar which has remained devoid of any snow till now is also expected to finally witness white cover.
As per Skymet, the reason behind the snowfall is the two weather systems approaching towards North India. Firstly is the active Western Disturbance, which is prevailing over the North Pakistan and is moving eastwards towards Jammu and Kashmir. It is likely to affect North India in the next 24 hours.
The other system is the cyclonic circulation which at present is over central Pakistan and will soon affect North Rajasthan and adjoining Haryana.
Both the systems, coupled together will give moderate to heavy snowfall and rain over hills and light rainfall across the plains of Northwest India.
In wake of the system, maximum temperatures are expected to drop and minimum temperatures will rise marginally. As the system moves away, cold wave conditions are expected to intensify over the region.
