Moderate to heavy snowfall occurred over Jammu Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand during first week of January.
Since then, intensity of Western disturbance remained feeble, and weather of Western Himalayas remained almost dry. Isolated light rain was witnessed occasionally over The Hills between January 10 and 20. Now an intense Western disturbance has approached Western Himalayas and rain and snow activities have increased.
We expect light to moderate rain and snow with few heavy spells to continue over Hills of Western Himalayas until January 23rd. Whether will start clearing up however scattered two isolated light rain and snow may continue on January 24th as well.
This spell of rain and snow will be the last good spell in the month of January. The intensity of Western disturbances usually start decreasing in the month of February. But chances of one odd strong Western disturbance cannot be ruled out which may produce moderate to heavy snowfall in the month of February also.
