The hills of North India are in the recovery phase at present in terms of rainfall in the month of March. Halfway through the month, the rainfall was highly deficit over all the pockets with Himachal Pradesh at 80 per cent deficiency, Jammu and Kashmir at 79 percent, Uttarakhand at 74 percent.

Last week, courtesy a Western Disturbance, the hills have see good rains and the deficiency has been covered to some extent. However, these regions remain deficit with Himachal Pradesh -36 percent, Jammu and Kashmir at -45 percent. Uttarakhand on the other hand is on the positive side at 23 percent.

A Western Disturbance is over Jammu and Kashmir, but it is a mild one and will only give light activities over all the three states today and tomorrow, at a reduced rate tomorrow. Thereafter, another system will approach the hills of North India on March 29 and that will give decent rains and even snow in some pockets of the hilly states over all the hilly regions on March 30, 31 and last until April 1. Little ease out is expected around April 2.

With this, the deficiency which has been on the lower side will improve in the coming days. These Western Disturbances have an impact on the temperature profiles as well, which means that temperatures will remain lower than normal.
