High pollution levels kill thousands of fish in Bengaluru Lake

High pollution levels kill thousands of fish in Bengaluru LakeThe so-called green silicon city unleashed an ugly polluted side on a bright Monday morning. The surface of the Ulsoor Lake in Bengaluru was covered with thousands of dead fish.

The fish washed up the shores of the lake, and the reason is none other than pollution. High water pollution levels in the Ulsoor Lake have now become a matter of concern.

While both the municipal corporation and the government have initiated quite a few measures, the story of the dead fish is an annual affair.

Every year in March, thousands of fishes are killed due to high pollution levels in the Lake. The death of these creatures is because of the decreased oxygen concentrations in the lake. The main reason for this condition is the untreated sewage in the lake which acts as poison for the fishes.

A barrier had been installed in the lake by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) so as to keep away the trash from entering the lake. However, the efforts terribly failed, and the water quality could not be improved.

Bengaluru’s Yamlur Lake was also in the news as thick froth formed due to untreated pollutants from industries dumped in the lake had blanketed the surface.
