Here is how Monsoon 2018 will be for Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Thiruvananthapuram

Southwest Monsoon is the most important season for India in terms of agriculture and economic development. In fact, Monsoon is neither a smooth process completely or completely good for the entire country.

Talking about South India in particular, the region sees two different Monsoons, Northeast as well as Southwest Monsoon. Both these Monsoon seasons give good rains over the entire region.

Talking about Southwest Monsoon’s expected performance in the year 2018, southern parts of the country are expected to see lesser rains. Coastal Karnataka, Kerala and South Interior Karnataka will be the ones receiving less rainfall activity. Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu are also likely to see rains on the lesser side. Meanwhile, normal rainfall is expected over the state of Telangana.

Thus, talking about the cities in South India, Bengaluru, Chennai, Thiruvananthapuram, Coonoor, Kozhikode, Kochi, Mangaluru will see rains on the lesser side of normal. Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada will also see rains on the lesser side of normal. Hyderabad on the other side will witness normal Monsoon rains.

Talking about how Monsoon turned out to be in 2016, the northern half of Peninsular India saw better rains while rains remained on the deficient side for the southern parts. Areas of Coastal Karnataka, South Interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, saw rainfall deficiency of more than 20 percent. Rest of North Interior Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana saw normal rains.

Year 2017 was somewhat better, and rains remained within the normal limits for entire South India. Geographically, excess rains were witnessed for Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. Other pockets saw normal rains.
