At present West Madhya Pradesh is the only region that has received highest rainfall in the entire nation. As on July 14, West Madhya Pradesh was 88 percent rain surplus.
The main reason for these excessive rains can be associated with a low-pressure area that intensified into a depression and gave heavy to extra heavy rainfall over the entire state during past few days. Additionally, another low-pressure area around the state gave fairly widespread heavy to moderate rains. However, the second low pressure area has weakened into a cyclonic circulation and has moved towards Uttar Pradesh.
Rain intensity over south and central parts of Madhya Pradesh is expected to remain subdued but north and eastern parts of the state are likely to continue to receive moderate to heavy showers for another 24 hours. Thereafter, only light scattered rains will continue over the state. However, once again intensity may increase over the eastern parts by July 18.
Another adjacent state of central India, Chhattisgarh is at present 4 percent rain surplus. Now a cyclonic circulation is present over Jharkhand and adjoining areas and due to this weather system, we expect heavy to very heavy rainfall at few places over northern parts of Chhattisgarh for next 24 hours. Districts like Jashpur, Ambikapur, Korwa, Raigarh and Bilaspur may get good rainfall.
Southern districts of the state are likely to receive subdued rainfall. After 24 hours, the cyclonic circulation is expected to move towards north thus decreasing the rain intensity over the state. However, rainfall will not stop completely. Light rains at few places are likely to occur. Thereafter another spell of light to moderate rains is expected to commence from July 18 onwards.
