Hefty rains lash Wayanad, Palakkad, Punalur, Alappuzha

The state of Kerala had seen good Monsoon rains with a few heavy spells on some occasions as well, unlike last year when it remained rain deficient. Throughout the Monsoon season, rainfall activity has remained on the front foot.

Currently, Monsoon surge is active over the state of Kerala as a cyclonic circulation is seen over Southeast Arabian Sea and adjoining Lakshadweep area in the mid-levels.

In fact, the last 24 hours have seen heavy showers with a few very heavy spells of rainfall. During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday, Wayanad recorded a whopping 471 mm of rainfall, Palakkad witnessed a massive 214 mm of rain, Kodagu saw 140 mm rains, Punalur witnessed 66 mm rain, Thiruvananthapuram 56 mm, Alappuzha 50 mm, Kozhikode 41 mm of rains, and Kottayam 38 mm.

Now, as per weathermen at Skymet Weather, moderate to heavy rains are expected to continue over the state of Kerala for another 24 hours, thereafter, rain intensity will reduce significantly, however, on and off rains will continue.

At present, Kerala has been observing a rainfall surplus of 15 percent. Now, we do not expect rain surplus to alter much. Another spell of heavy rainfall is expected around August 13.

Thus, in a nutshell, on and off Monsoon surge will continue to affect the state of Kerala due to which the weather will not go dry. The intensity of rains will keep on varying from time to time.
