Hefty Mumbai rains ruled out due to northward movement of well marked low, good showers in pockets

Mumbai Rains had wreaked havoc with the city recording over 500 mm in just three days time. In fact, the last three days of June also saw very heavy rains making it a brutal Monsoon week for the city of Mumbai.

July saw very heavy rains on the first day itself with the city seeing 375 mm rainfall in 24 hours, which is the highest July 24-hour rain in a decade. Also, the second highest in the last 44 years or so. In fact, Mumbai rains saw more than half of its monthly rains in the first two days itself.

Yesterday saw reduced rainfall activities for the city of Mumbai with just about 4 mm rain for Santa Cruz and 10 mm rainfall for Colaba. These no rain show helped in easing out the waterlogging and helping city to continue with its normal life.

Today, the morning hours begun to see some rainfall which have been somewhat intense in the suburbs wherein some good showers are also being seen in the city as well.

There was a forecast of very heavy rains for Mumbai between July 3 and 5 in view of the well marked low being in proximity of the city of Mumbai. However, the system has moved northward over Rajasthan and adjoining Madhya Pradesh which have been seeing copious amount of rains. The system will move further away, confining to Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan only.

Now, Mumbai is expected to see rains of varied intensity today with the showers being heavy in pockets and light to moderate in others. The possibility of some sharp showers for short duration in some locations still stands. Moreover, 30-50 mm in a period of 24 hours may be seen in pockets.

However, very hefty rains have been ruled out from the city. Normal Monsoon rains that Mumbai sees will continue for the next couple of days wherein some sharp showers may be seen.
