Monsoon has remained subdued over the northeastern states for the last 2 to 3 days. However, it has become active once again in parts of West Assam and Sikkim. The main reason for this rainfall reduction could be attributed to the development of a cyclonic circulation over west-central Bay of Bengal.
Due to this circulation, moisture feed in the form of southerly winds from the Bay of Bengal was reduced. Now, the weather system has moved inland and is lying over Vidarbha and adjoining areas. Therefore, moderate winds from the Bay of Bengal are once again reaching up to northeastern states. We can expect heavy to very heavy rainfall during next 2 to 3 days over northern parts of Northeast India like Assam, Meghalaya and Sikkim expected.
Thereafter, the rainfall belt is expected to shift towards Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and foothills of Bihar. Moreover, the rain intensity will reduce from June 25 onwards over Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura and Nagaland. However, scattered light to moderate rains will continue over Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh.
However, major parts of Northeast India are still witnessing light to moderate rainy spells. During last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Sunday, rainfall recorded in most parts of Northeast India is as follows:
