Hefty Monsoon rains pound Bihar, Jharkhand, more in offing

July 15, 2016 8:49 AM |

rain in BiharAs reiterated by Skymet Weather, heavy to extremely heavy rains have started over the parts of Bihar and Jharkhand. In span of 21 hours from 8:30 am on Thursday, Jamshedpur in Jharkhand has recorded 125 mm of rain, while Gaya in Bihar has received 115 mm of rain.

These rains can be attributed to the axis of Monsoon trough which is currently passing through Indo-Gangetic plains. The trough has also given good rains of varying intensity over several areas of the state.

Further, the Monsoon trough is likely to shift closer to the foothills of Himalayas anytime soon and is likely to stay there for at least next couple of days. With this, heavy to very heavy rains are expected over most parts of Bihar during the next 3-4 days.

Jharkhand will also continue with good rains with isolated heavy to very heavy wet spells in the coming days.

Both the neighbouring states have been witnessing deficient Monsoon rains till now. As on July 14, Bihar is deficit by 25%, while Jharkhand by 20%.

With good rains in offing, we expect that these states will recover the rain deficiency during the ongoing spell itself, predicts Skymet Weather.
