Since last week, on and off rain activities of varying intensities have lashed Mumbai and suburbs. During the last 24 hours, parts of Mumbai have recorded light to moderate rain and thundershower activities. In the last 24 hours, Santacruz recorded 0.6 mm and Colaba 3 mm of rain.
Today, we do not expect much rain activities over Mumbai and suburbs, however light rain at few places may continue. The weather to remain warm and humid over Mumbai and suburbs.
Rain activities over Mumbai and suburbs are expected to increase by tomorrow evening and thereafter rain activities will further intensify leading to moderate to heavy rains at many parts of Mumbai and suburbs.
On August 3rd and 4th, we expect heavy to very heavy rains lashing Mumbai and suburbs, which may lead to waterlogging and flash floods and will cause disruption to normal day to day life.
In view of the above scenario, we advise people to stay at home on August 3 and 4. until unless there is urgent work, otherwise they will end up in traffic jams or waterlogged areas.
In fact, chances of moderate to heavy rains may occur until August 6th over Mumbai and suburbs, thereafter the intensity to reduce significantly. The period between August 3rd and 6th is crucial for Mumbai and suburbs, as we anticipate heavy to very heavy rains lashing the city.
The month of July ended with a surplus of 40% for Mumbai. In July, Mumbai has received 1754.1 mm of rain against the normal of 1251.9 mm. The month of August will also commence on a rainy note, and there are high chances that Mumbai will surpass its monthly average of August as well.
