Heavy thundershowers to lash Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, East Jharkhand, and Northeast India

Heavy to extremely heavy rains have occurred over Western districts of Assam Gangetic West Bengal and parts of north coastal Odisha. Light to moderator rain and thundershowers continued over rest Northeast India, sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim.

Whether parameters are expected to remain unchanged for the next 3 to 4 days. Therefore, heavy to very heavy rain and thundershower activities accompanied with strong winds lightning strikes and hailstorm activities are possible over Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Gangetic West Bengal, parts of Jharkhand, and Odisha.

The recent extreme weather activities such as violent thunderstorms, hailstorm, and lightning strikes have done significant damage to standing crops over many parts of Bihar, West Bengal and Odisha. The month of April and May are notorious for violent thunderstorms and thundershower activities over Chota Nagpur hills. Places like Jharkhand adjoining parts of West Bengal and Odisha usually get affected by nor’westers known as Kal Baishakhi in the local language.

These rain and thundershower activities are expected to continue on and off till the end of April. Weather will become comparatively e better in the beginning of May and these intense weather activities are expected to subside.

Due to Intense rain and thundershowers, the rain deficiency of Northeast India is decreasing day by day. By the end of the month, we expect many of the Northeastern States would be no longer rain deficient.
