Heavy Pre-Monsoon showers accompanied with squally winds had lashed the holy city of Ujjain on May 5 where the Simhastha Kumbh Mela is being held. These heavy rains killed seven and injured over 40 people resulting in widespread chaos over the region.
After remaining dry for three days, Ujjain and adjoining parts of Madhya Pradesh have once again witnessed rains since the forenoon hours. Rains were accompanied by strong winds which caused more trouble to the devotees.
Heavy showers have been observed in several other parts of the state as well. In just a short span of three hours from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm on Monday, Ujjain has recorded 17 mm of rainfall. Similarly, Sagar observed 17 mm of rainfall as well, Guna 3 mm and Bhopal 1 mm.
Rainfall has also been observed over several areas including Khandwa, Hoshangabad, Dhar, Dewas and adjoining areas. While these activities were of short duration, good rains have occurred during this period.
According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, regeneration of clouds may take place and many areas of the state may receive more rain and thundershowers during the next few hours.
