Heavy spells expected over northern hills, flash floods likely

The weather conditions of hilly regions of Western Himalayas was almost dry from past few days. Only a few isolated spells were witnessed.

However, now favorable rainy conditions over these areas are foreseen. A Western Disturbance which was close to Pakistan is likely to move towards hilly regions of the country. Axis of Monsoon trough which is at present over Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh is also likely to shift towards north.

The interaction of these two weather systems is the most probable reason for some decent spells over Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. These rains are likely to lash theses states around late evening on August 6 or August 7 and will continue for another 2-3 days. Most regions will witness moderate to very heavy spells as well.

Moreover, during these types of hefty showers, flash floods and landslides are also expected as these states are landslide and flood-prone. Additionally, these states are also prone to cloudbursts and an odd incident of cloudburst too cannot be completely ruled out.

Therefore, administration is advisable to stay cautious against these types of possible disasters. Alongside, tourists are also requested to take proper precautions while travelling in these areas during this time.
