Heavy Snowfall Blankets Hills, Rain, and Hail Lash Plains:

March 2, 2024 11:42 AM | Skymet Weather Team

The Western Himalayas have been experiencing significant snowfall and rain over the past two days, as predicted by Skymet. This weather phenomenon is attributed to a combination of factors: a western disturbance over Pakistan and surrounding areas, a low-pressure system over western Rajasthan and adjoining regions, and humid winds carrying moisture from the Arabian Sea.

While the hills witness moderate to heavy snowfall, the plains have seen rain activity with isolated hailstorm occurrences in parts of Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan. Scattered rainfall has also affected Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Vidarbha, parts of Gujarat, and even further east.

This period of wet weather is expected to continue until March 2nd, with moderate to heavy rain and snowfall, including isolated heavier spells, in the Western Himalayas. Weather conditions are expected to gradually improve, with the intensity and spread of the precipitation decreasing on March 3rd. By the 4th of March, clear skies are anticipated.

The eastern parts of Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh may still witness light to moderate rain and thunderstorms accompanied by isolated hailstorm events over the next 24 hours. On March 3rd, rain and thunderstorms are anticipated over Bihar and parts of Jharkhand. However, the intensity and spread of this rainfall are expected to diminish thereafter. This is expected to be one of the heaviest and most widespread rainfall events of February.

While clear skies are predicted from March 4th onwards, isolated light rain may persist over parts of Gangetic West Bengal. It is crucial to stay updated on the latest weather advisories and exercise caution during these weather conditions.
