Heavy showers to lash Madhya Pradesh

Madhya Pradesh is at present one of the most rain excess region of the country. Since second half of June, the state has been observing heavy to very heavy rains.

Currently, a low pressure area persists over Uttar Pradesh and adjoining Madhya Pradesh. An associated upper air cyclonic circulation also extends up to mid-tropospheric level.

Moreover, the axis of Monsoon trough is also moving close to north of Madhya Pradesh across the low pressure area. During last 24 hours, Madhya Pradesh has received widespread rains over North. While during the similar time frame, rains were scattered over rest parts of the state.

In last 24 hours, from 08:30 am on Sunday, moderate to heavy rainfall over most parts of the state was observed. Some of them even recorded very heavy showers. These rainfall figures are displayed in the table below:

Moreover, rain is expected to continue over most parts of the state for another 24 hours. However, northern parts of the state are likely to witness moderate to isolated heavy showers. Scattered rains are expected over the rest parts of the state.

As on August 14, Madhya Pradesh stands at a rain surplus of 35 percent more than its normal. Possibility of more rains over the state may also alarm flood-like situation over most regions of the state.
