Rains and thundershowers continued to lash parts of Karnataka and Goa for the second consecutive day. However, last 24 hours saw fairly widespread heavy showers.
All thanks to the cyclonic circulation which has been prevailing over Coastal Karnataka and Goa for the last couple of days.
In span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Tuesday, Honavar recorded 66 mm of rain, Chitradurga 58.2 mm, Panjim 51 mm, Mangalore 31 mm, and Belgaum 7 mm.
Now as we progress further, intensity of rains will reduce but light to moderate showers will continue over Coastal and South Interior Karnataka, South Konkan and Goa region foe the next 24 to 48 hours.
According to Skymet Weather, the cyclonic circulation is likely to shift to move in southerly direction. As a result, showers will reduce over Karnataka. Rain belt will now cover more parts of Kerala, which will now see increase in rain activity.
This ongoing rainy spell indicates that the weather conditions are now favourable for the onset of the Northeast Monsoon over the Peninsular India.
The three-month long Monsoon season spans from October to December, mainly affecting Coastal and South Interior Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
