Heavy showers lash Jagdalpur, highest of the seasonWhile good Monsoon like rains have been lashing several parts of Kerala, weather activity wasn’t intense over central parts of the country. In fact, Chhattisgarh remained mostly dry with very little rains over isolated pockets.

However, currently, a cyclonic circulation is currently seen over South Chhattisgarh. Also, a trough is extending from West Bengal up to Rayalaseema across Coastal Odisha and South Chhattisgarh. Under the influence of these weather systems, many areas of Chhattisgarh have received good rains during the past 21 hours.

In fact, during the last 21 hours from 8:30 am on Thursday, Jagdalpur recorded a whopping 50 mm of rain, which happens to be the highest of the season. So far, the city did not receive much rains and only light rain was recorded on rare occasions.

However, as June begun, rains increased over the region. While the monthly average rainfall for Jagdalpur during the month of May stands at 78 mm, the city receives about 261.7 mm rainfall on an average during the month of June. Also, the highest 24-hour rainfall for the city in June stands at a whopping 259.7 mm which was received on June 17, 1974.

Now, as the system continues to persist, many areas of South Chhattisgarh will continue to receive rains and the spread will be over more areas of the state as well.
