Heavy showers expected over Western Himalayas

Light to moderate rain has been going on over Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh for the the last few days. Now rain activities are going to increase over the states. However, monsoon onset is also anticipated over Uttarakhand soon.

A trough will be extended from North Punjab to the Eastern parts of the country. Humid winds from the Bay of Bengal will also feed moisture over the Hills leading to Intense rain activities between June 25th and 28.

Usually, monsoon reaches Uttarakhand by June 20 and over Himachal Pradesh by June 25th. Progress of monsoon this year remains sluggish and monsoon was delayed over east and Central India by 10 to 12 days. But now conditions are becoming favourable for the steady advancement of monsoon over south Peninsula parts of Central India as well as over parts of Western Himalayas.

Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir are in the normal rain category, but Uttarakhand is deficient by 46%. With the onset of monsoon, rain deficiency of Uttarakhand will reduce. There are chances of landslides and mudslides over Himachal and Uttarakhand next week. Tourists are advised to take precautions while driving to the hilly destination of the states.
