Heavy Rains Unlikely In Delhi, Weekend May Go Dry

September 13, 2024 1:33 PM |

Delhi/NCR received moderate monsoon showers last night. Safdarjung and Palam recorded 30mm and 18mm of rainfall, respectively. Showers were heavy at few locations like Delhi University and Ridge which recorded rainfall of 56.5mm and 69mm, respectively. Most other places the rainfall amount varied between 10mm and 20mm. Monsoon showers are going to ease out over Delhi and suburbs.

The main triggers for Delhi were proximity of depression over West Uttar Pradesh and the vicinity of seasonal monsoon trough. The depression has weakened and also moved away from Delhi area. The shifting of system will drag the monsoon trough, also along. The cyclonic circulation of the weakened system is marked over Northwest Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. This position will take the monsoon trough north of Delhi, close to the foothills of West Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

The overnight rains have left plenty of moisture in the air. Cloud cover will persist over and around the capital city. Heavy showers are going to be far and few today. Yes, one of heavy shower at isolated place can not be ruled out during first half of the day. However, the showers will be fleeting and for short duration. Weather conditions will improve as we proceed through the day, in the late afternoon and evening. Weekend on Saturday and Sunday will not spell any problems with respect to the rains. Even, the sun is likely to peep out on these two days. The temperature is likely to rise by 2-3°C and the conditions may become sultry. Delhi will not see any heavy weather, at least for next one week.
