Gujarat has been facing the fury of flooding rains for the past 24 hours. However, it has been raining in Gujarat especially over the southern districts from the past three days. Earlier, rains were deficit in the first week of June but after the onset of Monsoon rains, the deficiency has improved.

At present, Gujarat is rain deficit by 18% while Saurashtra and Kutch are rain deficit by 34%. Monsoon generally reaches Mumbai by June 10 and after two or three days, it reaches Surat in Gujarat as well. However, this time the onset of Monsoon has been a delayed one and it hit Gujarat around June 25 which is almost two weeks late from the normal onset date.

Gujarat has performed better than Saurashtra and Kutch wherein South Gujarat performed better than North Gujarat.

It has been raining profusely in Gujarat wherein Surat has received flooding rains of 192 mm and Valsad recorded 278 mm of rains in the past 24 hours. Surat, Valsad, Navsari right up to Bharuch have been witnessing heavy rains.

In the last three days, Valsad recorded heavy rains of whopping 444 mm and Surat recorded about 250 mm of rains. These rainfall activities have been in association with a Cyclonic Circulation which is over South Gujarat and adjoining the Arabian Sea which is likely to persist.

The experts have to say that these heavy rains would continue for the next two days, today and tomorrow. There are chances that today some of the places might get to see torrential rains. Thus, resulting in water-logging and inundation and causing disruption in connectivity in air, road and rail traffic.

As per the records, in 2018, at this time of the year floods were a sight in Gujarat. On June 26, 2018, Valsad recorded 291 mm of rains which resulted in flood-like situation, especially in South Gujarat.
