Mumbai rains have been kind enough over the residents for quite some time now. So much so that the city has been witnessing heavy Monsoon showers. In fact, during the last one week, the city of dreams witnessed a whopping 387 mm of rainfall giving the residents a taste of those typical Monsoon showers.

However, rains did witness a slight reduction with Monsoon showers being moderate in the past 24 hours. In a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Saturday, the Santa Cruz observatory recorded a good 28 mm of rain. The Colaba observatory recorded 29 mm of rainfall during the same time frame.
The reason for reduced rainfall activity over the city of Mumbai can be attributed to the presence of the low-pressure area over Southeast Rajasthan and adjoining Gujarat region. This weather system has been pulling away all the moisture towards itself and thus, heavy showers have taken a backseat over the city of Mumbai.

As per weathermen at Skymet Weather, the off-shore trough which is running along the West Coast from South Gujarat up to Kerala will continue to give moderate spells of rainfall over the maximum city. The city may be able to witness isolated heavy spells as well.
So far, Mumbai has been able to record about 840 mm of rainfall against its monthly average of 799.7 mm in July. With about a week to go, the possibility is that Mumbai will be able to receive over 1000 mm of rainfall.
