Maharashtra has been witnessing intermittent showers since the beginning of the month but heavy showers remained away from the state.
Since last 24 to 48 hours, light to moderate rains have occurred at many places over Konkan and Goa and adjoining districts of Madhya Maharashtra.

Meanwhile, the weather over Marathwada and Vidarbha remained almost dry with isolated light spells.
These rains over the region are due to westerly winds that are increasing the moisture level over the region. Moreover, a cyclonic circulation is seen over Kutch and adjoining areas and a feeble trough is extending from this system up to west central Arabian Sea.
In a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Tuesday, Yeotmal recorded 49 mm of rains, followed by Harnai 37 mm, Bhira 32 mm, Thane 25 mm, Alibag 16 mm, Mahabaleshwar 11 mm, Udgir 8 mm, Mumbai 5 mm and Ratnagiri 3 mm of rains.
Now, a cyclonic circulation is likely to develop over Odisha Coast in the next 24 hours. This system will move towards Vidarbha and Marathwada and may intensify further.
As per Skymet Weather, scattered rains will commence over Vidarbha by tomorrow evening and then the rain intensity will increase over the region along with Marathwada. One or two heavy spells are also possible.

Rains are expected to continue over both the regions till August 20. Also, rain intensity will increase over Madhya Maharashtra and Konkan and Goa during this period. So we can say that from August 17 onwards, fresh spells of good rains will approach Maharashtra.
As Marathwada and adjoining districts of Madhya Maharashtra were reeling under drought like conditions, these rains will give some relief to the residents.
