hyderabad post

Neighbouring states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have performed quite well this Monsoon season. Rains remained near normal over both the states. In fact, as on September 17, Coastal Andhra Pradesh is rain surplus by 4% and Telangana is marginally deficient by 2%.

However, Rayalaseema region is still largely rain deficient by 33% despite good rains occurred over parts of Rayalaseema during the last 24-48 hours.  Anantapur district recorded extremely heavy 3-digit rain to the tune of 171 mm.

Rest parts of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana also recorded light to moderate rains with few heavy spells. Medak in Telangana recorded heavy rain to the tune of 77 mm. In the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Tuesday, Anantapur recorded 57 mm of rain, followed by Hyderabad 26 mm, Machilipatnam 22 mm, Ongole 14 mm, Kurnool 11 mm, Nizamabad 10 mm and Khammam 10 mm.

Now in the next 24 hours, a system is likely to develop in Bay of Bengal, which is expected to become more marked and move inland gradually. It may also become a depression and would most likely stay close to the coastline.

Therefore, we expect heavy to very heavy rainfall activity to lash North Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Meanwhile, Rayalaseema would only settle with light rains.

Light rains with few moderate spells would be seen over both the states during the next 24 hours. However, once the system intensifies, moderate to heavy rains will occur initially over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and gradually covering Telangana during the subsequent 48-72 hours.

Further, from September 22, clearance of weather would be seen but light rainfall activity would continue.
