Heavy rains to lash Andaman and Nicobar Islands

Andaman and Nicobar Islands have been receiving good rainfall activities since the last many days. In fact, the region continues to remain surplus in terms of rains.

At present, a cyclonic circulation is seen over South Andaman and Nicobar Islands due to which heavy rainfall activity has been observed mostly over southern parts of the Island during the last 24 hours.

During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Friday, Nancowry recorded heavy rainfall to the tune 40 mm, Hut Bay 43 mm, Car Nicobar 8 mm and Port Blair witnessed 6 mm of rains.

Now, the cyclonic circulation is expected to move in a north-northeast direction, leading to increased rain intensity over Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Other stations like Maya Bandar, Long Island are also expected to receive heavy rainfall activity during the next 24 hours.

Furthermore, in the wake of this cyclonic circulation, a low-pressure area is also likely to form, which may further intensify into a well-marked low.

Strong winds are also expected over Andaman and Nicobar Islands for next two to three days. Sea conditions may also become rough leading to difficulty for the fishermen. Therefore, fishermen and others are requested to be careful while going near the seashore.
