Heavy rains to hit Nagaland, Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Tripura until April 3

Heavy rains in Northeast India

After witnessing dry weather conditions for the last two consecutive days, rain activities have once again commenced over entire Northeast India. This statement could be supported with the fact that the region has been observing light to moderate rains since the last 24 hours.

According to Skymet Weather, after travelling along the foothills of the Western Himalayas, the remnants of the Western Disturbance have now reached Northeast India. Moreover, a Cyclonic Circulation has developed over the eastern parts of Assam. In addition to this system, an Anti Cyclone over North Bay of Bengal is inducing moisture over the region.

With the combined effect of these systems, rains will intensify over the northeastern states and we expect light to moderate rains with one or two heavy spells over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura until April 3. Moreover, there are bright chances of violent thunderstorm and thundershower activities, along with hailstorm and lightning strikes during this period.

Northeast India has remained highly rain deficient so far. However, the upcoming heavy spell of rains might ease the situation by pulling down the deficiency figures to some extent.

The average rainfall for the northeastern states is high during the month of March. And when we enter the month of April, the pre- monsoon activities picks up pace and the average doubles.
