The city of Kolkata has been receiving some rains during the last few days. In fact, many other parts of West Bengal have also been receiving rains of varied intensity for quite some time now.
If the last 24 hours are to be seen, these rains became all the heavier over the region. In fact, the city of Kolkata saw heavy rains with the residents witnessing a very rainy Diwali. In a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Thursday, Kolkata recorded a whopping 53 mm of rains, Midnapore 55 mm, Burdwan 14 mm, Bankura 12 mm, and Purulia 7 mm.

These rainfall activities are attributed to the weather system which is persisting as a depression over coastal Odisha. This system is expected to move in a northward direction for some time and then will move north Northeastwards weakening gradually into a well-marked low-pressure area during the next 24 hours.

As per weatherman at Skymet Weather, heavy to very heavy rains are expected over the city of Kolkata and adjoining areas of West Bengal today. However, rains will witness a reduction tomorrow and only light showers with isolated moderate rains will be seen over the entire state.
Thereafter October 22 onward, weather will become completely dry over Kolkata and adjoining areas of West Bengal as the weather system and its remnants will move away.
