Heavy rains to continue over Bihar

July 28, 2016 3:46 PM |

Heavy rains to continue over BiharFor the past few days, heavy rains have been lashing Bihar resulting in flood like conditions over many parts particularly the Gopalganj region. The situation has aggravated even further as the neighbouring areas in Nepal continue to receive heavy rains.

Many areas in the foothills are reeling under flood like conditions due to the major chunk of rains being received in the northern districts or foothills of Bihar. River Gandak continues to flow above the danger levels. The condition has gotten worse as Nepal discharged about 3.5 lakh cusec of water in the river Gandak.

Close to 22 villages have been affected with over one lakh people living in low lying areas bearing the brunt. Flood water has even entered the houses of those living in the above mentioned areas.

While the last 24 hours have not witnessed heavy showers, rains are all set to increase again from July 29 and are likely to continue until July 31. During this period, many areas of the state are expected to receive moderate to heavy rains. These rains can be attributed to the Western Disturbance which is currently over the Jammu and Kashmir region and is likely to move eastwards along the foothills.

Thereafter, intensity of Monsoon rains will reduce significantly as the rain belt will shift towards Uttar Pradesh. Hence, the weather of Bihar will remain almost dry with scattered light to very light rain at a few places. In fact, August is likely to begin on a dry note for Bihar.

The month of July has displayed a far better performance in Bihar as compared to June. Even then the state is at present deficient by 5 percent.
