The state of Tamil Nadu has been witnessing a few intense spells of rains for the past few days. Moderate to heavy rains have been lashing the coastal regions of Tamil Nadu including the city of Chennai. The southern districts of Coastal Tamil Nadu have been recording heavier showers as compared to other areas.
The last 24 hours were also similar wherein South Coastal Tamil Nadu has witnessed a few heavy spells. In fact, isolated pockets even witnessed three-digit rains.
In a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday, Palayamkottai witnessed a whopping 134 mm of rainfall, followed by Karaikal at 58 mm. Other areas to have witnessed moderate to heavy rains include Parangipettai 51 mm, Chennai (Nungambakkam) 41 mm, Tuticorin 25 mm, K Paramathy 23 mm, Chennai (Minambakkam) 24 mm, and Cuddalore 14 mm.
These rainfall activities have been attributed to the persisting cyclonic circulation which is currently stationed at Sri Lanka and adjoining Southwest Bay of Bengal. Moist winds from the Bay of Bengal have been feeding moisture over the region.

Now, as per weathermen at Skymet Weather, moderate to heavy showers with isolated very heavy spells of rains are expected over the southern coastal districts of Tamil Nadu until tomorrow. Cities including Tuticorin, Karaikal, Palayankottai will witness good spells of rains. The intensity of rains will be slightly less over the northern districts of Tamil Nadu.
Meanwhile, interior districts will witness light to moderate rains during the same time period.
