Heavy rains to continue in pleasant Kerala for next 2 to 3 days

Heavy Monsoon rains have lashed the state of Kerala in the past 24 hours. So much so that few places have also recorded three digits rainfall. These Monsoon showers have made the weather extremely pleasant over “the God's own country”.

Not only this, both day and night temperatures have reduced significantly. Hence, we can say that Monsoon 2017 continues to be vigorous over the state.

During the past 24 hours from 08:30 am on Saturday, Thrissur recorded a massive of 118 mm, followed by Kannur 110 mm, Kozhikode 100 mm, Karipur 86 mm, Punalur 67 mm, Kottayam 66 mm, Kochi 59 mm, Alappuzha 47 mm and Thiruvananthapuram 24 mm.

The reason for these rains can be attributed to the active off shore trough that runs from Konkan to Kerala Coast. In addition to this, an upper air cyclonic circulation is also seen over east-central Arabian Sea off Karnataka Coast.

Weathermen at Skymet Weather expect these heavy to very rains to continue over the state for another 36 to 48 hours. Thereafter, the rains will mark a decreasing trend.

Morning and nights will remain contented, followed with humid days and maximums that will settle around 28-29 degrees.

As on September 16, Kerala is rain deficient by 16 percent. If these good Monsoon showers continue for another 2 to 3 days, we can expect the rain deficiency of Kerala to fall by a few percent.
