Mumbai received fairly decent and heavy showers during the last four days. The airport observatory at Santacruz amassed nearly 300mm of rainfall in this period. The base station recorded 74mm of rainfall in the past 24 hours. The monthly total has now far exceeded the normal, wherein, a total of 583 mm of rainfall is measured against the normal of 341.4 mm. This compensates for the shortfall of about 200 mm witnessed in August 2024. Courtesy very heavy rainfall in July, the four months of monsoon season are likely to close on a cheery note. As of now, the seasonal rainfall is in excess by about 600mm. Mumbai has received about 2900mm of rainfall against the seasonal mark of 2260mm.

The remnant cyclonic circulation of the low-pressure area is now marked over North Madhya Maharashtra and Southwest Madhya Pradesh. It can still fetch some moderate showers for the city, today. Even, isolated short spells of heavy rain also cannot be ruled out. As the circulation shifts away tomorrow, the intensity and spread of rainfall will significantly reduce. At best, some moderate showers may occur in a few areas.

The weather activity will become least next week. Even, from Sunday onwards, monsoon showers will be far and few and absolutely light in nature. Though, it will be slightly early to preempt monsoon withdrawal, with otherwise could be commented more authentically, next week. The scheduled withdrawal happens anytime around 05th October from Mumbai and the conditions are becoming favourable to maintain the timelines with minor changes, if any.
