As predicted by Skymet Weather, heavy rains have returned to the state of Gujarat. And in a span of 21 hours, until 5:30 am today, Dwarka has recorded 54 mm of rainfall, followed by Rajkot 52 mm and Okha 42 mm of rain.
These rains have occurred in view of a Depression over Gujarat and adjoining area, which is further likely to intensify and move in the northeasterly direction.
Due to this movement, the meteorologists at Skymet have predicted heavy rains with isolated very heavy spells in many parts of Gujarat today and tomorrow.
Places like Rajkot, Junagadh, Amreli, Surendranagar, Sabarkantha, Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Patan, Mehsana, Bhuj, Jamnagar, Kandla, Vadodara, and Veraval may observe moderate to heavy rains with isolated very heavy spells for next 48 hours.
These hefty showers may lead to widespread flooding and water-logging in many areas. Moreover, these would have an adverse impact on the major crops which are almost ready for harvesting.
Groundnut, Jowar, Bajra, and Cotton, in particular, have to bear the brunt of flooding rains. Moreover, the flood havoc may disrupt the normal day to day life for the next two days.
Usually, by this time Monsoon rains start receding, however, this season has been different. Good rains have been going on in many parts of the country including Gujarat. And with more good showers coming up, we do not expect Monsoon to make a withdrawal anytime soon.
