Rains have bestowed upon the eastern states of the country such as Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand almost the entire month. From light to moderate, Monsoon rains have played extremely well for both the states. In fact, the last 24 hours saw exceptionally good rains lashing Chhattisgarh, particularly over the South Chhattisgarh region.
Jagdalpur in the last 24 hours had recorded extremely heavy three-digit rains of 122 mm. In fact, today, within a span of 9 hours, Jagdalpur has observed extremely heavy rains of 154 mm. Other districts of the state also witnessed moderate showers in the last 24 hours. On the contrary, the state of Jharkhand remained mostly rains free with isolated pockets recording very light rainy traces.

The reason for these rains as per Skymet Weather can be attributed to a depression which is over Odisha coast. Now, this weather system is likely to move inward towards Chhattisgarh and Telangana. Therefore, the southern districts of Chhattisgarh such as Jagdalpur, Rajnandgaon, and Bijapur are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rains in next 24-48 hours.

The other parts of the state will also receive good rains but the intensity will keep on reducing in North Chhattisgarh in stations like Ambikapur, Bilaspur, and Raigarh.
During the similar time frame as mentioned above, Ranchi and Jamshedpur in Jharkhand witnessed 0.2 mm and 0.4 m of rains respectively. The reason for these light rains can be associated with a trough that is running via South Uttar Pradesh and North Chhattisgarh.
This is one of the reasons that Jharkhand is not witnessing enough rains. However, light rains are going on but after 24 hours, the eastern end of the trough which is at present over North Chhattisgarh will shift further north towards Jharkhand. On account of this, rains are expected to increase from July 20. Though the intensity of rains is expected to increase by July 21 after which light to moderate rains will continue in Jharkhand until July 24.
