The state of Gujarat was one of the most deficient pockets of the Monsoon season during the month of June. Moreover, the onset was also delayed over the state of Gujarat. However, the last few days have been good enough for Gujarat and hefty rainfall activity has been witnessed.

So much so that due to these rains, the deficiency which had mounted to a whopping 90 percent in Saurashtra and 75 percent in Gujarat region has now come on the positive side for both these areas. Moreover, during the last 24 hours, the deficiency in Saurashtra and Kutch came down to 2 percent from -14 percent, which means a massive 16 percent gain. The western parts of the state were the ones that recorded heavier rains in the last 24 hours.

During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday, Veraval recorded a whopping 89.4 mm of rains, Vadodara witnessed 72.5 mm rainfall, Valsad 43 mm, Porbandar saw 35 mm of rains, Kandla 30 mm, Mahuva 21 mm, Rajkot 17 mm, and Dwarka 3 mm.

The flood situation continues to remain grim over Gujarat but some respite seems in the offing as rainfall activity is expected to reduce.

The cyclonic circulation, which is a semi permanent feature persisting over South Gujarat gets activated when a system from Bay moves towards Rajasthan region or the off shore trough gets activated, which was the case during the last few days.

Right now, the cyclonic circulation does persist, but the West Coast trough has become mild and the low pressure area has shifted towards the west. Thus, rains will remain on the lighter side.

However, with so much water dumped due to heavy rains, reservoirs as well as water bodies are full to the brim and even overflowing. Thus, the receding of water from the state will take time but heavier rains for now are ruled out from these areas.

Heavy rains will be limited to some pockets only and light showers will be witnessed over other parts.
