Vidarbha, the landlocked sub-division of Maharashtra has witnessed moderate to heavy rains in the past 24 hours. Isolated places have received extremely heavy rains. Gondia has recorded a deluge of 285mm in the past 24 hours. The neighbourhood locations like Gadchiroli and Chandrapur, also received moderate showers. Nagpur, the third largest city of Maharashtra recorded 18mm rainfall, since yesterday. More heavy showers are expected today and relief thereafter.
Chaotic rains lashed the city of Gondia, last night. Heavy and incessant downpours have flooded the city and adjoining parts. All the water bodies in the vicinity of the city overflowed with large gush of water. Many villages have lost connectivity and few of them are marooned and rendered inaccessible due to large pools of stagnant water. Some of the roads have been washed away, restricting relief operations.
A monsoon depression is positioned over the Chhattisgarh region. It is likely to move west-northwest and reach Central Madhya Pradesh in the next 24-36 hours. The heavy rainfall belt will shift to Madhya Pradesh. Light to moderate rains will continue, over Vidarbha today, as well. Weather conditions will improve over the sub-division, a day later and stay good till the weekend.
