In wake of this, we can expect good rains to begin over North Tamil Nadu from the night of December 11. Districts such as Chennai, Tiruvallur, Vellore, Kanchipuram and Puducherry will witness light to moderate rains with one or two heavy spells.
From the morning of December 12, the intensity of rains will increase over these districts and strong winds gusting at a speed of 70-80 km/hr will blow over the area by noon.
Moderate to heavy with extremely heavy falls at one or two places are likely over Vellore, Tiruvannamalai, Viluppuram and Cuddalore districts. However the intensity of rain will be less over the interior districts in comparison to the coastal region.
The coastal areas of Tiruvallur and Kanchipuram are expected to witness the maximum fury of the cyclone. In fact, low-lying areas near coastal region may get inundated with water as the storm surge of 5-7 feet is possible over North Tamil Nadu coast.
