Meteorological conditions are building up for vigorous monsoon activity over Madhya Pradesh on the weekend. There could be extremely heavy rains leading to localized flooding over some parts.  Rainy spells may last for four days with adverse weather conditions for 24-48 hours over some parts. The wet spell may disrupt normal life and impact connectivity.

Currently, there is a cyclonic circulation marked over Gangetic West Bengal and neighbouring Jharkhand up to the middle levels of the atmosphere. This system will move westward and reach Chhatisgarh and adjacent border areas of Northeast Madhya Pradesh and southern parts of Uttar Pradesh, on 02nd Aug. Moving forward, the system will reach east and central parts of Madhya Pradesh, the next day. And, this is the period of extremely adverse weather activity over central and southern parts of the state, resulting in localized flood-like conditions, impacting connectivity.

While the state will have week-long activity of moderate to heavy showers between the 02nd and 08th August, the intensity and spread will vary, on day to day basis. Powerful rains accompanied by lightning, thunderstorms, strong winds and blinding rains are likely on 03rd August, covering eastern and central parts. Places at risk will include Jabalpur, Umaria, Mandla, Sagar, Dindori, Narsinghpur, Raisen and Damoh. Even, the capital city Bhopal and neighbouring town Vidisha will have brief spurts of moderate to heavy thundershowers.

The weather system will move to west and central Madhya Pradesh on 04th Aug but the weather activity is likely to reduce in strength. Moderate rain and thundershowers will continue till 06th August 2024. During this period, extreme North Madhya Pradesh comprising Gwalior, Guna, Shivpuri, Sheopur, Tikamgarh, Bhind and Morena will have the least weather activity. Another spell coming up shortly will lash these parts as well, between the 08th and 10th of August 2024.
