Monsoon is likely to reach Punjab in the next few days. The pre-Monsoon rains are splashing almost all the parts of the state. Rains have gradually intensified over the state in the last 24 hours. Many cities recorded moderate to heavy rainfall while one or two districts witnessed extremely heavy rainfall.

As per Skymet weather, a trough is running from Northwest Rajasthan to the Bay of Bengal and a Western Disturbance is persisting over Jammu and Kashmir and adjoining areas. Moderate easterly winds from the Bay of Bengal are also blowing over the region. High humidity in combination with the weather systems is responsible for these heavy rains.

In the last 24 hours from 8.30 am on Wednesday heavy rain of 110 mm was recorded in Kapurthala, Jalandhar 83mm, Bathinda 63mm, Amritsar 58.4 mm, Anandpur Sahib 54 mm, Pathankot 31.4 mm other cities like Chandigarh, Patiala, Ludhiana recorded light rains.
Now we expect that moderate to heavy showers at many places and heavy to very heavy showers will continue over the state for the next three to four days.
Punjab is already a rain surplus state. It has largely excess by 96% rains. It is a great sign for the agriculture sector as almost most parts of the state’s income are dependent on it. It will be of great help for the sowing of Kharif crop.
