Southwest Monsoon made an onset over some parts of Rajasthan. Since then, scattered rainfall activity has been observed over many areas since the last few days. However, now rainfall intensity has increased over the south-eastern parts of the state since the past 48 hours.
In fact, parts of Rajasthan including Kota and Bundi recorded more than 50 mm of rainfall a day before. During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Saturday, Chittorgarh recorded a whopping 45 mm of rain. Other areas to have received some rains include Ajmer 10.1 mm, Kota 6.6 mm, Pilani 4.1 mm, Sri Ganganagar 7.8 mm, and Udaipur 5.2 mm.
These rains can be attributed to the cyclonic circulation which is currently over central parts of North Madhya Pradesh adjoining Southeast Rajasthan. This weather system has already caused floods over several parts of Madhya Pradesh. The system is likely to persist for about two more days before dissipating completely.
Therefore, during the next 24 to 48 hours, some parts of Southeast Rajasthan including Kota, Bundi, Chittorgah, and Jhalwar are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rains. In fact, the possibility of a few extremely heavy rainy spells cannot be ruled out. These rains may even result in a flood like situation over many parts.
