Eastern and central parts of the country are likely to have a spike in pre-monsoon activity. This will ease out the oppressive heat over these parts, prevailing for a fairly long duration. However, the intense activity may inflict some damage to the crops, associated with high-speed winds and hailstorms in a few places. Life and material resources, both, need to be guarded against any inclement weather activity.
Multiple weather systems, over different parts are joining together to increase the spread and strength of pre-monsoon thunderstorms. A cyclonic circulation is marked over Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and parts of Odisha. Also, a trough will dip into this system, running across North Rajasthan, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. Moist southerly winds, streaming along and off the coast, from the Bay of Bengal will join the fray of stormy conditions. Seasonal Peninsular India trough will also be in place to accentuate the force and scale of weather activity.
Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha are the frontline regions for fierce activity, between 07th and 11th May 2024. East Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh will be placed in the second rung, with slightly milder ravage. The weather activity over West Bengal will be largely confined to the Gangetic plains. The event may stretch till the weekend and may spill over to the next week, as well.
Fairly widespread pre-monsoon thunderstorms will have the added fury of lightning strikes and gusty winds. Hailstorm activity becomes a common string on display, to show the might of towering clouds, packed with strong updrafts and supercooled water droplets. A deadly combination of blinding rains, howling winds and hailstones carry devastating potential to harm men and material resources, alike.
