Heavy rains likely in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, tourism affected

Light to moderate rain is being observed in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh for the last few days. A seasonal Trough is extending from Punjab up to Northeast India across North Haryana and North Uttar Pradesh. This Trough will gradually shift in North direction towards the foothills of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Thus, we expect a gradual increase in rain over both states.

Moderate to heavy rains are possible in the trio states on July 13 and 14. These good rains are expected to continue until July 15.

The heaviest rainfall will be recorded over Southern parts of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Northern districts will only receive light to moderate rain and thundershowers.

Skymet extends caution for the residents of Dehradun, Haridwar, Tehri, Almora, Nainital, Udhamsingh Nagar, and Champawat.

Therefore, people planning to travel to the hills of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand must avoid or postpone their travel plans until July 16 or 17 as this is the most probable period of widespread landslide and mudslide in the region. Heavy rains can sometimes even trigger flash floods.

On the other hand, Jammu and Kashmir will not witness any intense rainfall activity. However, light rains with one or two heavy spells might occur over Jammu and Kashmir.

Thereafter, the Trough will once again start moving Southwards and rains will increase over Northern districts of Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Haryana and start decreasing in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
