In the month of July, heavy to extremely heavy rains triggered flood like situation in many parts of Gujarat. Thereafter, weather conditions in Gujarat became almost dry with isolated light rains. The prolonged dry spell increased stress level among the residents of Gujarat and especially the farmers.
First week of August was almost dry and warm in almost all areas of Gujarat. However, after that, on and off light rain with few moderate spells continued over Gujarat region. During the last two to three days, rains have increased over the state of Gujarat.
In the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Monday, Surat recorded very heavy rain to the tune of 116 mm
Now, a cyclonic circulation is seen over southern parts of Gujarat. Moreover, a low-pressure area which is over central parts of Madhya Pradesh is also enhancing the rainfall activities over Gujarat therefore we expect fairly widespread rain and thundershower activities to continue in many districts of Gujarat.
Intensity of rain will be moderate to heavy over south and eastern parts of the state. Other places will witness moderate rains.
After 24 hours, rain intensity will reduce significantly, but scattered light rains will continue thereafter also. These rains will be of huge relief for the farmers of Gujarat.
