Southwest Monsoon made a timely onset over the Northeastern states. Since then it has been lashing the sister states with heavy to extremely heavy rain and thundershower activities. So much so that several areas also witnessed flood like situations during the month of June.
Since the span of last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Friday, Pasighat recorded 141 mm of rainfall, North Lakhimpur 100 mm, Imphal 51 mm, Dhubri 49 mm, Dibrugarh 34 mm, Tezpur 13 mm, Kohima 9 mm, Gauhati 3 mm, Goalpara 1 mm.
According to Skymet Weather, a trough is seen extending from northern parts of the area up to East Assam. These ongoing situations are likely to prevail over the region for the next 48 hours. Due to this, heavy rainfall activities are expected to continue and increase significantly over many parts of northeastern states including Lakhimpur, Pasighat, Dibrugarh, Imphal and Tezpur.

Meanwhile, chances of flood like situation cannot be ruled out over the region. More water is likely to accumulate hence relief is not in sight for at least next three to four days. Lightning strikes are also likely to occur over northeastern states.
However, northeastern states are likely to continue with heavy to extremely heavy rainfall during the next 48 hours. These floods like situations are damaging properties of varied nature.
