Mumbai Rains

Many parts of Mumbai and suburbs have been experiencing heavy downpour since yesterday morning. During the last 24 hours, Santacruz recorded 85.4 mm and Colaba 108 mm of rain. Total sum rainfall over Santacruz during this monsoon, between June 1 and August 29 is 3038.4 mm which is 1191.5 mm more than the normal rainfall. Similarly, the total sum rainfall over Colaba between June 1 and August 29 is 2816.1 mm which is 1126.2 mm more than the normal rainfall.

Thane Belapur industries association recorded 110 mm, Dahanu 103 mm, Matheran 149 mm, and Mahabaleshwar 53 mm of rain. Many Southern and Central suburbs of Mumbai also witnessed above 100 mm of rain leading to water logging in low-lying areas.

These heavy rains over Mumbai and suburbs are due to the combined effect of a well marked low pressure area over North East Madhya Pradesh and a cyclonic circulation over south east Pakistan. These weather systems have resulted in activation of monsoon surge over North Konkan and Goa, and Gujarat.

Moderate to heavy rains are expected to continue over many parts of Mumbai and suburbs until tonight. Rain activities over Mumbai and suburbs will reduce by tomorrow, but isolated intense spells cannot be ruled out. The weather over Mumbai and suburbs will remain pleasant for at least the next 2 to 3 days.

The weather over Mumbai and suburbs will go almost dry by September 1st and we do not expect any significant weather activity until September 7 or 8. The temperatures in Mumbai and suburbs may increase by 2 to 3 degrees during the next week.
