Heavy rains lashed Kerala, may continue for another 24 hours

Moderate to heavy rain have been lashing the southern districts of Kerala from night of November 12. Areas of Thiruvananthapuram have been flooded, and nearby districts of Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu also witnessed incessant rains. Red alert has been sounded for Thiruvananthapuram and Kanyakumari. Meanwhile, orange alert for many more districts of Kerala.

Train services have also been reported hit by these heavy flooding rains. These rains have been attributed to a Cyclonic circulation, which is over interior parts of Tamil Nadu, and a trough is extending from Southeast Arabian Sea to Gangetic West Bengal across Tamil Nadu, coastal Andhra Pradesh and Odisha.

Moderate to heavy rain may continue over many parts of Kerala during next 24 hours. Thereafter rain activities will start subsiding.

Between November 1 and 13 Kerala has already received 90% excess rainfall. By the end of current episode of rain average rainfall of Kerala may become more than double.
