Heavy rains lash Shimla, Katra, Uttarkashi, Solan

During the last 24 hours, Southwest Monsoon remained active over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Thus, moderate rains with heavy spells at a few places were observed over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Though light rains were witnessed over Jammu and Kashmir region. Also, places such as Jammu, Uttarkashi, Dehradun, Shimla, Gulmarg, Una, Nahan, Solan recorded a good amount of rainfall.

In a span of last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Saturday, Shimla recorded 58 mm of rainfall, Katra 56 mm, Uttarkashi 47 mm, Solan 44 mm, Bhaderwah 25 mm, Mussorrie 18 mm, Nahan 16.2 mm, Kullu 11.6 mm, Joshimath 8 mm, Jammu and Una 7.8 mm, Gulmarg 7.4 mm, Batote 5.1 mm, Dharamsala 4.6 mm, Mukteshwar 4.2 mm, Kalpa 3.4 mm, Dehradun 2.7 mm and Champawat 2 mm.

These weather conditions were attributed to a Western Disturbance which was seen persisting over Jammu and Kashmir region. Due to which, light rains have been occurring at many places over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand since last 24 hours.

In the coming days, these good Monsoon rains are expected to reduce significantly as the Monsoon trough is likely to shift towards the south. With this, the day temperatures will also rise significantly and the residents of these regions are likely to face uncomfortable weather conditions there on.

However, heavy spells of Monsoon rains at a few places over these regions cannot be ruled out. Meanwhile, these on and off light rains with moderate spells at a few places will continue to occur over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand during the next 24 hours.
