Heavy rains lash parts of Bihar

RAIN in BIHARThe weather system that was responsible for rain in parts of Punjab, Haryana and Delhi moved eastward in the last couple of days to give some very good amounts of rain in Bihar. In the last 24 hours, from 8.30 am on Monday Supaul recorded 56.8 mm of rain.

Similarly, Purnea recorded 50.7 mm of rain in the last 24 hours, while Motihari in north Bihar observed 37.4 mm of rain. Another place to record almost equal amount of rain is Forbesganj where 36.4 mm of rain was witnessed. The state capital Patna also enjoyed a rainy day yesterday as the city recorded 18 mm of rain. Other places to have also witnessed some rain are Chapra, where 21.2 mm of rain was recorded, Bhagalpur 16 mm and Muzaffarpur 14 mm of rain.

This spell of rain has led to drop in day temperatures by almost 4-8°C. For instance Bhagalpur saw the maximum temperature drop 8 degrees Celsius on Monday to settle at 28.4°C. Chapra recorded day temperature at 21.2°C, which is 6 degrees below normal. The night temperature in the city had also slided 2 degrees below normal to settle at 17.6°C.

In the capital Patna the day temperature on Monday dropped 4 degrees Celsius to settle at 31.2°C which was a huge relief for the rising temperatures in the city. Adjoining Muzaffarpur also saw the maximum settle 4 degrees below normal at 29°C.

For the next 2-3 days the weather in the state is now expected to remain clear before another weather system from North India travels to the region (East India) and starts giving another spell of rain from March 6 onwards.
