Heavy rains lash Odisha, Chhattisgarh sees moderate showers; to reduce now

The states of Odisha and Chhattisgarh were not witnessing very good monsoon rains for the past few days. However, with a weather system coming up in the north west Bay of Bengal, rainfall activity once again revived ovaries areas and a few good spells of rainfall were observed during the last 24 hours.

In fact, Odisha saw heavy rains at many places with Chhattisgarh witnessing moderate rainfall activity.

In the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Saturday, Puri saw 124 mm, Keonjhargarh recorded a whopping 95 mm of rains, Chandbali saw 94 mm rains, Phulbani 75 mm rains, Angul 50 mm, Balasore 35.7 mm, Bhawanipatna 56 mm, Cuttack 17.2 mm, Dhenkanal 68 mm, Jharsuguda 84 mm, Titlagarh 32 mm, Durg 45 mm, Jagdalpur 32 mm, Raipur 14.6 mm.

The system which is a depression as of now, is currently over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining Jharkhand region and is expected to move towards the west following a northerly track and weaken further.

Thus, during the next 12 hours moderate to heavy rainfall is expected to be both these states. As the system is expected to move further away and weaken thereafter, rains are likely to reduce by tomorrow.

Therefore, both Odisha and Chhattisgarh will witness reduced rainfall activity, but rains will continue. Talking about coastal parts of Odisha, strong winds are expected along the coast.

Temperatures of a both these states will continue to be on the lower side resulting in comfortable weather conditions.
