Heavy rains lash Maharashtra, more showers coming up

The state of Maharashtra has seen some intense spells of rains where in three digit rainfall has also been recorded in some parts of the states.

As far as the rainfall distribution during the last 24 hours is concerned, the state of Maharashtra has entirely received rains of varied intensity with heavy showers over Vidarbha region as well as South Konkan wherein moderate to heavy showers have been observed over Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada.

In the last 24 hours from 8.30 am on Monday, Harnai recorded a whopping 368 mm of rains, Amravati saw 138 mm of rainfall, Ratnagiri 89 mm, Nanded 66 mm, Chandrapur 66 mm, Washim 64 mm, Buldana 58 mm, Akola 59 mm, Parbhani 50 mm, and Colaba 29 mm.

These rains can be attributed to the well marked low pressure area which is presently over Vidarbha and adjoining areas. The system is expected to move in a West North West direction which is why the Rains will be on the heavier side over Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada along with North Konkan region in the next 24 hours.

As the system will shift, we can expect heavy rains to reduce over Vidarbha but some rainfall activity will continue over this region as well. Mumbai and adjoining areas are expected to see very heavy rains between today and tomorrow
