June began on a fairly wet note over Kolkata. The capital city of West Bengal received good showers during the past few days. In fact, the city of joy recorded a whopping 42 mm of rain on the first day of June itself.
Thereafter, heavy rains lashed Kolkata on June 7 when a good 45.2 mm rainfall was recorded in the city. Thereafter, the city remained dry for a good three days which only resulted in an increase in temperatures.
In fact, the maximum in Kolkata reached 40.2 degree Celsius on June 11. However, the city of joy recorded very light rain on the same day resulting in some relief from the sky high temperatures. While no rains were recorded on June 12, rain gods decided to give Kolkata that much needed rain on a Monday morning.
Heavy rains have beenlashing Kolkata since today morning resulting in pleasant weather conditions over the city. These pre-Monsoon rains were accompanied with thunder and lightning. In fact, according to locals, the thunder was so intense that even car alarms began to buzz.
These rains were much needed for the residents of Kolkata who will soon witness Monsoon rains. Southwest Monsoon is likely to make its onset over Kolkata shortly after giving good rains over Northeast India.
